Omora Ethnobotanical Park (www.omora.org) – The Omora Ethnobotanical Park is a joint collaboration between the Omora Foundation and the University of Magallanes.  Since 2001 it has provided a long-term ecological study site for both research and education.  As the driving force behind the designation of the Cape Horn Biosphere Reserve, it is also an important promoter of the integration of science and outreach with policy and conservation planning.

The University of Georgia(www.ecology.uga.edu) – OSARA’s first pilot study abroad project has been developed with the University of Georgia’s Institute of Ecology.  In the fall of 2005 three students will travel to Chile to work with the University of Magallanes and carry out projects in the Omora Ethnobotanical Park.

The University of North Texas Chile Program (www.chile.unt.edu) and Philosophy Department (www.phil.unt.edu) – The University of North Texas is implementing a new concept of “field environmental ethics” that began in 2006. In addition UNT is committed to supporting the creation of a biological station and environmental ethics center for the Cape Horn Biosphere Reserve. OSARA works closely with the UNT Chile Program Office to develop these plans and carry them out successfully.

The Institute of Ecology and Biodiversity (www.ieb-chile.cl) – The Institute of Ecology and Biodiversity (IEB) is one of three research institutes of the Chilean Millennium Science Initiative. Millennium Science Institutes are Centers of Excellence, bringing together scientists sharing a common philosophy and research goals. IEB was conceived in 2005, and received funding as of March 2006. Recently, the IEB was further re-enforced with the receipt of the prestigious “Fondos Basales” Award, which will double the annual budget and challenge the researchers to further link their investigation with social outcomes.

The Senda Darwin Foundation (www.sendadarwin.cl) – Senda Darwin Biological Station was created on Chiloé Island in the 1990s to link the knowledge of Chilean ecosystems, generated within academic institutions, with education at all levels, and with its application by local communities and their organizations. Through this interactive link, Senda Darwin seeks to enhance local development and contribute to the sustainability of the biosphere.
